Dear friends of our family and our wines,
Many thanks for your interest in our wines that we produce with much blood, sweat, tears and enthusiasm in our vineyards and wine cellars.
Not only the diligence of the winegrower, but also the course of the weather decisively influences the quality and quantity of a vintage. The 2012 vintage has been characterized by a very capricious course of the weather that impacted the different grape varieties in different ways.
At the beginning of June, just at the beginning of the flowering of the Burgundy
varieties, it was very cold in the Rheingau. That's why many of the grapevine
blooms fell off the vines, and we could already see at that time that the 2012
harvest quantity would be smaller. That meant that we had to be satisfied with
only 30 hectoliters per hectare, that is, 50% of the normal harvest quantity
in the Assmannshäuser Höllenberg vineyard. The harvest quantity in
our other Spätburgunder vineyards did not exceed 45 hectoliters per hectare.
The 2012 harvest quantity was disappointing, but the quality of our Spätburgunder
wines promises to be excellent.
